SENIORS AND YOUTH IN TECHNOLOGY – SAY IT

The Department of Commerce, International Trade, Investment, Enterprise Development and Consumer Affairs will join the rest of the world in the observance of World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) on March 15, 2017 under the theme: "Consumer Rights In The Digital Age - Building A Digital World Consumers Can Trust", as declared by Consumers International (CI).

In recognition of this international event, the Consumer Affairs Division (CAD) in collaboration with the St. Lucia Bankers Association has planned a training workshop dubbed: "Seniors and Youth in Technology - SAY IT" for members of the Gros Islet Fishermen's Co-operative Society, the focus of which will be on the use of the Auto Teller Machines (ATM) and Online Banking.

Three evening training workshop sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday March 14, 15 & 16, 2017 respectively at the Gros Islet Secondary School from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm.

The objective of this activity is to help member organizations throughout the length and breadth of the island understand the basics of modern day devices particularly smart phones and the computer and also learn how to use these devices to conduct online transactions.

The training will take the form of a classroom style setting where every participant will be assigned a mentor; so as to give each of them a hands-on approach to facilitate their knowledge and understanding of the technology.

Hon. Lenard Montoute, District Representative for Gros Islet and Minister for Equity, Social Justice, Empowerment, Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Local Government will be in attendance at this initial phase of the training workshop being piloted in Gros Islet. Similar training workshops will be replicated in other communities island-wide.
