On Monday July 11, 2016 the Hon. Bradly Felix, Minister in the Ministry of Commerce, attended his inaugural meeting with the Ease of Doing Business Task Force (EDBTF). The Minister, who is also the Chair of the EDBTF, emphasized his commitment towards ensuring that the Task Force is effective and efficient. He indicated that the EDBTF needs to be restructured in order to fulfill its intended purpose and to reposition Saint Lucia as the number one (#1) place to do business within CARICOM. Hon. Bradley Felix promised to personally champion two major concerns of the private sector; opening a bank account and a single window for trade. The Minister also commended the Private Sector for being part of the process and encouraged frank dialogue between his office and the Private Sector.
The Ease of Doing Business Report (EDBR) is an annual publication issued by the World Bank which measures the ease of doing business in 189 economies based on ten (10) business related regulations. The ten areas reflected in the ranking are: Starting a Business, Dealing with Construction Permits, Getting Electricity, Registering Property, Getting Credit, Protecting Minority Investors, Paying Taxes, Trading Across Borders, Enforcing Contracts and Resolving Insolvency.
